The Jolly Sportsman is situated on a quiet, no-through lane in rural East Chiltington, Sussex by the South Downs, 20 mins from Brighton. Since 1998 it has been run by Bruce Wass who was the Chef / Proprietor of the highly acclaimed Thackeray’s House restaurant in Tunbridge Wells.

With Alistair Doyle as Head chef and Sharon Frizzell and Nathaniel Wenlock as Restaurant Managers, the aim is to serve good reliably sourced food in a relaxed setting where you can enjoy a bar snack and a pint of local ale or a three course meal with fine wine from our very
extensive list.

The Bar - The Jollysportsman, Gastro Pub, Sussex
The Bar

The bar area covers most of the original ground floor of what once was a Victorian alehouse. It is cool in summer and cosy, with a log fire, in the winter.

The Restaurant
With cool beige walls, contemporary art and polished thick slabs of oak for the tables there is a modern / rustic feel to the restaurant. Service under Sharon & Nathaniel's direction is efficient but informal and friendly. In the summer large glass doors fold back onto the shaded terrace.
The Terrace
With Moroccan tiled tables, candles, jasmine and clematis this is the most popular area for dining on a warm summer’s evening. Outdoor heaters ensure your comfort when it is cooler.
The Garden
The large rear garden looks towards the South Downs and the front garden over farmland. Light meals are served in the garden at lunchtimes.
Local Bed and Breakfasts
Local Accomodation

Although we don’t have rooms at The Jolly Sportsman, we are happy to recommend two family run local Bed & Bedbreakfasts.
