WE WELCOME YOU
Tanya, Beth, Rachel, Chrissie and the Jolly team are all delighted to welcome you .
We are open 7 days a week for pub and rooms (breakfast, lunch and dinner) April to September. We will be closed on Sunday evenings for dinner and all day on Tuesdays from October to March.
Nestled at the foot of the South Downs National Park, not far from Gatwick, Lewes or Brighton, The Jolly Sportsman pub and bed & breakfast is a hidden gem in picturesque East Chiltington serving some of the best local food and wine in Sussex. One of the best places to eat featured in the AA guide 2023/2024. We are an idyllic retreat for wine enthusiasts and travellers seeking a cosy and authentic experience. The combination of locally sourced food, an extensive wine list, comfortable accommodation, and a stunning garden bar creates an offering that invites guests to relax and enjoy the beauty of Sussex wine country. Its the perfect place to unwind and savour the charm of the countryside.
Our cooking philosophy is one of classical techniques as well as cooking over live fire, married with local, seasonal produce, creating a constantly evolving menu that has a low carbon foot print. We have a daily delivery of fresh fish caught off the Sussex coast, and all our meat is sourced from local butchers and farms within a 20 mile radius. We bake our own bread daily, and our pastry chef also makes some wonderfully comforting desserts. Our delicious menu on a Sunday includes roast options, alongside a kids mini roast and of course our fish and vegetarian and vegan options.
Our wine list has been carefully curated inline with our menu that is balanced, on price and to the pallet. With over 50 wines from the old and new world, as well as the local English vineyards around us, this is one of the most extensive and exciting wine lists in the area. We also have local Sussex bitters fresh from the cask.
We have a stunning garden to dine in during the spring and summer, and cosy indoor dining with roaring fires in the winter months. Our garden has a wonderful outside bar which is open all through the summer.
We allow only well behaved and quiet dogs etc
And if you do bring your dog along please be aware of other guests at all time.
